Are we asking the right questions?
We rarely ask tough questions when our life and careers are going well. When we are successful, when we feel like everything we do is working.
But what about when we feel stuck. Stuck Stinks! What happens when the simple solutions are not working? When we feel like we are going back to the white board, again, to figure it out.
This is where the “why game” comes into play. If we are not careful, we start to look for a “why”. There is little good that comes from this game. Typically, we will start to point fingers, play the blame game, lose confidence, go into panic mode, throw up red flags, jump ship, … you get the point. This will not lead to productive conversations or solutions.
So, what then do we do? We ask the right questions.
Here are a few questions to ask:
What are the basic fundamentals that we need to get back to?
What has worked in the past that can work again?
What has worked in the past that no longer work?
What do we need to do to attract new business or profits?
What do we need to stop doing? What do we need to start doing?
What are other organizations doing that we can learn from?
What do I need to change about how I am leading, both myself and my team?
What can we focus on that will make the greatest immediate impact?
I hope that this helps you ask better questions to get better results.
